CCC: About the course

The Crafting Creative Communications, or CCC, is a copywriting course which is now into its 15th batch.

There are three modules for the CCC – Digital Arts and Television Commercials, and either Copywriting or Art Direction. The CCC looks for people who have a flair for language and want to move towards the creative field in the industry. We look for people who have a flair for language, visuals and who have good design skills.

The course teaches you to hone your skills in these areas, use various software, work on projects, working on platforms such as Mac, designing posters, print ads, TV ads, etc.

Starting 2008, the CCC will be a one-year programme. The intake will be 24 students.

Past CCC students have become creative directors of national-level advertising agencies. They are frequent winners of international advertising fairs, such as the Dubai IBDAA Awards and the Abbys. Many of them work abroad as well.

The course is a 6 months course, which includes a two-month internship. The course fee is 4.5 lakhs, including hostel accomodation, food, library and internet charges.

CCC: Placements

MICA assists students of the CCC with placements by means of referalls. For the past 4-5 batches, all the students have been placed. Students get placed as creative trainees in advertising agencies and other creative houses, such as radio, television, etc.

There is a placement committee within the batch which helps with pitching to agencies and companies.

CCC: Admissions

The admissions for the CCC are open to any graduate.

However, if the student intends to major in art direction, then a fine arts degree is required.

Once the notification is out, candidates can download the form from the MICA website and will be invited to give a MICA Entrance exam. This is a comprehensive exam, which will test candidates on their writing skills, general awareness of the advertising industry in India and lateral thinking. From this, shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview process, from which 24 final candidates will be selected for the course. A portfolio always helps during the application stage.

ExtraCurrics at MICA

MICA is a haven of extra-currics. Indeed, at any given point of time, there are numerous activities that happen on campus. To give you an idea of a few…

MICANVAS: MICA’s annual brand management fest is always a huge draw, and has been getting bigger year after year. From paper presentation contests to impromptu slide presentations, it has it all. Not to mention, some of the biggest bands in India – Zero, Them Clones, Indian Ocean, Parikrama, Strings (okay, that one was Pakistani), Euphoria… Have all performed at the main lawns at MICA!

Sankalp: Sankalp is MICA’s theater society. They run plays through the year, and the annual event is the main event at the Natrani theater, Ahmedabad. Sankalp has grown in magnitude every year and it’s more than just acting – 100+ students are involved in lights, makeup, costumes, music, sounds, logistics, sets, sales and marketing. MICAMinds: MICAMinds provides students a chance to work on live projects from the indsutry, and get paid for the same. MICA students have worked on projects for Mudra, Voltas,McDonald’s, Barista, Yahoo!, Hero Honda, Rediffusion, Leo Burnett and many, many, many more.

MICA Lecture Series: MLS is a series of lectures conducted by industry practitioners coming down to MICA sharing their experiences with students. Last year saw Microsoft, OOH Media, Lious Vuitton and many more coming down to campus sharing their experiences.

CulComm: MICA’s Cultural Committee is in charge of celebrating festivals and organizing events at MICA. One of the most active and loved committees, they’ve made sure we celebrated Udiyan (the Gujarati kite fest), Dandiya nights, Onam, Diwali, Christmas, Janmashtami, Ganesh Puja, Eid, Saraswati Puja, Makar Sanskrati and many more. They also celebrate the fresher’s Cultural show and the seniors’ farewell show, replete with nostalgia!

LitComm: One of the more intellectual societies on campus! The LitComm is in charge of bringing out the Black Coffee – the termly magazine with articles by students, and the yearbook. They also conduct events on campus such as DC Picto, JAM and quizzes. LitComm also supports MICANVAS by bringing out the Daily Grind – a daily newsletter that is circulated to everyone during the fest.

Team Interface: Team I is responsible for representing MICA in the media – be it sending out press releases or conducting media-related events. UTVI, MTV, etc have come to campus and have covered MICA events under the aegis of Team Interface.

MICARE: MICA’s own retail store selling everything from chocolates to pain spray! Like they say, “There are some things in life that money can’t buy. MICAre offers them for free!”

MIChord: A new committee at MICA, which conducts musical events and fosters musical talent on campus.

Team Trinetra: Team T, as they are affectionately called, are in charge of campus entertainment including movie screenings and parties.

PGPCMX: Placements

PGPCMX: Admissions

Candidates with minimum seven years of work experience can apply to the PGPCMX.

They will be required to undertake the MICAT – which includes a small module on more quant related questions. Other than this section, the other MICAT sections remain. Read more about the MICAT here. The MICAT for the PGPCMX is 2.5 – 3.0 hours long.

Following the MICAT, shortlisted candidates will appear for the GE/PI process in Ahmedabad. Around 120 people will be called for the interview, and 30 candidates will be selected finally.

PGPCMX: About the course

The executive programme at MICA is for talented people who have the potential and will to succeed in senior management. The programme trains candidates in specific areas in marketing – media, entertainment, retail and design management.

The PGPCMX was started in 2008 as its first batch, and has got wonderful response since. The minimum qualification is a graduate with seven years or more of work experience. All the PGPCMX students stay in air-conditioned rooms on campus.

While it’s too early to comment on the placements of the PGPCMX students, all of them have interned in various positions in the marketing and media industry. There is a global immersion for one month, and the remaining 11 months will be on campus.

The PGPCMX is a 15 month programme, with five different modules.

The fees is 10 lakhs, all-inclusive. Loan facilities are available.

RCM: Admissions

Applicants for the RCM course have to undergo MICA’s admission test – the MICAT, which will have a module on Retail Knowledge (current happenings, etc) and some VA and LR. The MICAT for the RCM course is different from the MICAT for other courses.

RCM: About the course

The Post-Graduate Programme in Retail Communications Management is aimed at those with particular interest in the Retail industry. It was incepted in 2005, and is a one-year programme. Graduates with work experience are preferred for the course.

As part of the retail course, students can undergo an international yatra, where they travel to other parts of the world to study retail formats there. Past batches have gone to London, Paris and Dubai. A domestic retail yatra follows, where students will be going to Tier 1, 2 and 3 cities for two weeks.

Regular retailers include Pantaloons, Reliance Retail, Technopak, Infiniti Retail, etc. In 2008, the average salary was 5.5 LPA, with two international placements in Dubai and Muscat. The placement in Muscat fetched 250 Omani Riyals. The highest domestic offer was 9 LPA, offered by Zensa Technology.

The batch size is typically 20-25.

Fees are 4.5 lakhs including hostel, food, internet, library, recreational facilities, etc. If the student opts for the international yatra, he will have to pay an extra 1.5 lakhs. Full loan facilities are available.
